There are 14 Pages in this Collection

Looking for a fun collection of pieces to motivate your Late Elementary/Early Intermediate students? Here’s some that will definitely peak their interest.

Sneaky Little Goblins: Written in C minor- with the accidentals included: it’s a comfortable hand position and students are only asked to move minimally. Rhythms are accessible. Good piece for teaching Right hand, Left hand coordination.

Which Waltz? Written in A minor; a Waltz, in 3/4 time. Rhythms are accessible- no eighth notes. Introducing some half step accidentals, but minimal hand movement makes it quite manageable. Notice the short chromatic scale at the end for a fun climatic moment!

Black’s Knight Ride: Here’s a piece that’s dramatic, yet simple: you’ll find lots of patterns, which can easily be taught by rote. Written in the key of D minor and suggested BPM is 144, if you dare! Teaching opportunities in this piece: Cross hand Arpeggios, Finger patterns, look for Octave higher, Octave lower; Dynamics make it dramatic! And a 4/4 Time to 3/4 Time, Meter change.

Haunted House Horror: This one’s really different! Written using the Whole Tone Scale, Augmented Chords, and Rhythmic patterns that suggest “knocking”- is that a scary goblin knocking at the door? Melodic patterns like ascending & descending Whole tone scales mimic, perhaps, chills going up & down your spine. Dynamics & Shaping the phrase will greatly enhance the mood of this piece.

The Darkest, Coldest Night: Written in the key of D minor, the notes lay well under the hand and the rhythms are easily teachable. Dynamics are critical! Encourage your students to create a story with the music that they hear.

Mad Dash!: The quick tempo gets your students intrigued, but the real challenge to play it with expensive musicality. Do you hear the “sighs” in the Left hand opening? Dynamics are critical! Written in the key of F minor, the notes lay well under the hand and the rhythms are easily teachable. Encourage your students to create a story with the music that they hear. Is it a race? Is it a chase? Are they upset? Why are they running?
