Blackthorn in Blossom is a lovely folk song that tells the story of love & loss.
Many of us have been moved by the devastation and senseless violence recently inflicted upon the Ukrainian people (March 2022). In a quest to send support, I hope pianists, all over the world, will lift up Ukrainian music, as a prayer of hope.
This tune is typically played on the Bandura- which is a plucked string instrument combining the elements of zither, lute and harp. In the Intermediate Solo, you can hear the influence of this instrument in the rotating, broken eighth notes that appear starting in m. 16 -19.
