Enter the world of intrigue with this original Piano 4 Hand duet, “A Rhythmic Communiqué, (Secret Agent Z -7)” by Susan Staples Bell. Written in Bb Natural Minor; even though there are 5 flats, it lays easily under the fingers and the melodic dialogue is equally shared between the Primo and Secondo parts. This piece is all about the rhythm: the opening statement alternates between 5/4 and 6/4: tapping out morse code for “Z - 7”. “Z” could also stand for “Zoom”, as the tempo marking is Quarter note = 186. Changing time signatures and syncopated rhythms continue throughout and will keep the performer on their toes! Can you find the hidden code message in this piece?
