Coventry Carol, Late Elementary/Teen-Adult Beginner, Inspired by my Lead Sheet Method Book
Coventry Carol
You’ll love this introspective arrangement - its suitable for recitals and pure enjoyment!
This arrangement is inspired by my Method Book - 20 Favorite Christmas Songs: How to Play Lead Sheets.
Here we have a more subtle, more sophisticated Waltz style - can you see how it is different? It is presented in 3 ways: Open 5th with repeated note, Open 5th with quarter - half, and Open 5th with half - quarter. Each one brings a different feeling.
Bonus - introduction to more complex chords. Do you know them? Study the score to see if you can identify them.
Teaching Suggestion: Ostinatos (repeated patterns)- explore this concept of having a repeated pattern in LH while RH moves through different chords. Encourage your student to brainstorm possibilities.
Key: G Natural Minor with some outside the key chords.
Time signature: 3/4. BPM = 144
Skill development: Left hand pattern as taught in my Method Book - 20 Favorite Christmas Songs: How to Play Lead Sheets. Study this arrangement to see how many other patterns I use, as well as: identify the chord symbols, what other chord tones are included?
Recognize Ostinato patterns. Find the chord symbol. Identify what notes are in the Gm, F/G, Eb, D, Cm/G, and D7 chords. Steady beat - repeated quarters. Switching back & forth smoothly & quickly between chords. Point out the Relative Major/Minor qualities of this piece. Reading easy notation. Create a moody tone with this one!
Level: Late Elementary, Teen/Adult Beginners
How long: 48 measures - 2 Pages. 1:20 minute performance time.
This is a Single License: One purchase - One copy. Thank for honoring the composer’s work by not sharing with anyone. Encourage them to purchase their own copy please!
